As you know, MCF has been plagued by people coming down with secondary covid infections. This facility has been taking a few people every other week going back to when over 90% of the facility was infected. The facility has been telling us that they would start to slowly back us off of the outbreak and quarantine status when we could go a few weeks without a covid infection.
So.. Every week the entire facility would sit on the edge of it’s seat hoping beyond hope that this would be the month without a new infection. Meanwhile.. The administration keeps riding new people in.. Moving people around.. Basically everything they could do to promote new infections. You know the MDOC story.. Don’t listen to what they say.. Watch what they do. Actions always speak louder than words.
Back to the point. The facility has been telling us that we have these new secondary positive infections, but they have not been reporting these “new infections” to the state. There has been a huge false positive debate going on here for quite a long time. Here is the punchline: They were lying to us in an attempt to mislead everyone away from what the real problem is. They have basically kept us on lockdown status with very limited movement and no activities or programming because they don’t have enough staff to run the prison. They have been faking positive covid cases to draw attention away from the real problem.. They don’t have enough staff to run the facility.
They have been lying to, and holding all of us hostage.. Using the pandemic as an excuse. On any given day this facility runs approximately a dozen CO’s short of what it would take in order to fully open. As this drama develops.. Even more CO’s go on stress leave, opt out for retirement, or just outright quit in retaliation for the way the administration here has handled the pandemic in this facility.
I know that there are a lot of people who would not understand, or care about, how horrible this has been for us. My personal experience: On the heels of my near death experience with the virus.. They have taken every single activity that I participated in. We are forced to live like we are in a level 5 facility. No regular yard. No activities. Less than an hour of being outdoors a few times a week.. That usually gets cancelled more times than not because there are not enough staff to allow for it. I’m afraid that I’m developing some mental issues stemming from sensory deprivation. Laying on a bunk and staring at the ceiling every waking moment for a year has obviously taken it’s toll on my mental health. I had a toothache for over a year.. They finally pulled “them” a couple of weeks ago. When I can’t get outside for long periods of time I develop steadily rising levels of anxiety until I have a panic attack. The CO’s aren’t policing the units, or protecting the weaker and/or older inmates so they are now at the mercy of thugs and gangs.. This affects everyone. The noise levels are out of control 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Inebriated idiots are running the asylum. This place has the semblance of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm.”
